It's 6 in the morning. The alarm clock is buzzing, and you're thinking to yourself, "What's the point in getting up this early for work?" For some of us, the motivation is simply the desire to shut off the clock that is vibrating off the nightstand. But for others, it is truly self-motivation. It is an internal alarm clock that motivates a person to make the best of his or her day.
Certainly, everyone wants to succeed in the world. Everyone wants to have a purpose, to be at the top of the corporate ladder, or to be the best he or she can be in any given area. But why do some people succeed in doing these things, and others do not? The answer is: self-motivation.
There are several factors that contribute to self-motivation. They include:
-Self-esteem
-Desire to succeed
-Will power
-Mental stability
-Family
-Life goals
-Daily activities
-Daily pleasures
All of these factors will directly affect success in a career, in academics, in playing sports, and in marriage and parenting. Whether you desire the highest position possible at your job, or graduating with a 4.0 grade point average, you need self-motivation to do it. Self-motivation drives an athlete to score the winning soccer goal, just as it drives a parent to be a good role model for a child.
Along with the desire to succeed comes mental stability. Everyone has a bad day here and there; but what self-motivates a person to continue on with the bad day? The answer is mental stability. The mind is a great force. When you put your mind to accomplishing something, you will try your best to do it. As a result, your will power is tested. Being able to stay self-motivated and focused on what is important rather than "throwing in the towel" allows you to succeed in the end. Will power, mental stability, and the desire to succeed are all the result of self-motivation.
Another factor that drives self-motivation is the family unit. Family can self-motivate an individual to be successful. An individual – especially a working spouse – will crave the family's pride and approval. The working spouse self-motivates himself or herself simply by worrying whether or not the family is taken care of financially. The working spouse will most likely want to earn a high paycheck, and in the end provide for the family. Children often idolize their parents and will mimic what they see their parents doing. In the end self-motivation is passed on from one generation to the next, as it is an important role in family affairs.
Lastly, self-motivation is driven by daily goals and basic daily routines such as losing weight or learning how to play a sport. The simple daily pleasure of waking up to see the sun shine, to hear the birds singing, or even listening to the rain are all pleasures which can self-motivate a person to get up in the morning.

Cyclone Larry Mums call out to Vic bushfire survivors:

In 2005 Cyclone Larry hit Innisfail hard, in fact it was right in the heart of the Cyclone's path and it all but wiped Innisfail off the map. A group of Innisfail mums got together after realising that the children's playground might be one of the least priorities in the recovery process, so they started to discuss the possibility of re-establishing an area of normality for their children as quickly as possible, with the focus being on raising money to re-build a children's playground.
Of course, it was not only the infrastructure that was damaged, but the Innisfail community would also need ongoing suppport for the emotional trauma that a disaster like this leaves behind; Peace Mitchell, her sister Katy, and their friends Liz and Karen decided to form a non-profit organisation called 'Mothers Helping Others' as a base for ongoing support and projects.

MHO have already initiated a couple of projects, publishing a book of children's stories and art work, and from the sale of the book raising money to rebuild a local playground, and organising a Photographic Workshop and holding an exhibition of the photos as a fundraiser!

Mothers Helping Others also travelled to Brisbane, and met with community representatives after the November storm there, which left 170 homes uninhabitable and more than 2,000 severely damaged; some of which are still under tarpaulins!

Now Peace and her friends are gearing up to help the Victorian bushfire survivors:)

Well, like most people who live in Australia, the time has stood still the past week with the horrific aftermath of the bushfires in Victoria. I was pretty stuck on the Koala story, and found it difficult to think, let alone write anything. But now I must forge forward and as we reflect on the worst tragedy in our country's history, I come to the realisation that we owe it to ourselves and everyone who has been affected, to find a way to cope, so that we can be of service to those in need.

I thought this was a good idea!
[i.e. to start a Blog where I can focus on 'who is Susi B' and direct people to there]
...but where do I start?

Well, I guess just having a place to start is a good start! I can use this Blog to collect the info as I remember it, and develop it as I go along, and perhaps I can combine it with a couple of other ideas I have, like: 'my favourite twitter quotes' etc. [now already, even before I finish this paragraph, I start to have ideas for not just this Blog, but many!!!]
And that is the amazing thing about writing; whether it be a Blog, a Journal, or even a letter, once you actually *start*, it just begins to flow and it quickly develops a life of its own!
Then sooner than you expect, you are 'up and running' and you have Blogs and Journals for every brilliant idea that 'pops' into your head!

Now where was I?
Hmmm, while I think of it, I must also consider: what is my passion?, what is my purpose? and what motivates me??

Ok, so the moral of the story is: 'Just Start!'
